Materials Program Manager

The Materials Program Manager will be responsible for activities and requirements of materials, cost, ODM/CM management for WD branded products & SanDisk branded products based in Taiwan. He or She will work directly with the CMs, ODMs, Engineering team, Planners, Commodity managers and component suppliers to help drive smooth flow of materials within the given cost target.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§  Manages ODM/CM BOM cost and MVA, consolidate quarterly price book for sustaining programs

§  Works with Development/Engineering on materials needs assessment

§  Develops sourcing strategy with Commodity Management

§  Provides guidance to suppliers during the development phase including schedules and costs.

§  Drives Commodity Management, Development and Engineering teams to meet direct material cost objectives; develops BOM cost for Production Quarter One (PQ1)

§  Works opportunities for cost reduction by design, quality enhancements and strategic leadership

§  Creates/maintains Material Planners for all development builds.

§  Manage all material plan changes (H/M Matrices, Sourcing Strategy and Material Planners)

§  Oversee and authorize all tooling and raw material starts for components in order to achieve program milestones.

§  Manage any component and/or tooling changes throughout development while minimizing any impact to development milestones.

§  Oversee program expenditures (includes tooling & components)

§  Inventory control for assigned programs

§  Provides direction and guidance to tactical and strategic process improvements in establishing policies/standards

§  Works directly with multi-function teams and suppliers to address issues that may impact schedule and supply

§  Manages and represents qualification status through development, and supports post transfer qualifications as required

§  Works with Finance to establish costs in development phases

§  Attends program management meetings (kick-offs, readiness reviews), design reviews and transfer review meetings as the senior leader for the materials organization and presents status of program ramp, materials availability & cost, product deviations, etc. as needed

§  Participates in a lead role in the development of strategic goals and objectives enabling the Materials department to meet overall Corporate goals

§  Manages material availability for pre-production builds, product deviations to meet the production ramp plan, as well as presenting program ramp status in the various development and executive reviews



Education and/or Experience

§  Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent

§  5+ years of related experience in materials/cost management or related field, and/or equivalent combination of experience and education

§  Expert project management experience required.

§  Hard disk drive or related industry experience preferred.

§  Extensive experience in Product Development support preferred

§  Expert understanding of product development and materials lead-time

§  Has senior level expertise and carries out complex projects/tasks/ assignments. Directs and coordinates major activities utilizing a wide variety of skills and experience. Demonstrates the ability to think strategically.

§  Excellent capability to work within a cross-functional environment

§  Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

§  Excellent understanding of supplier capabilities to enable effective cost modeling and negotiations

§  Solid working knowledge of binding elements of a contract, standard company contracts and agreements. Working knowledge of contract law.

§  Respond effectively to sensitive or controversial business situations.

§  Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in extremely critical or complex matters.

§  Apply exceptionally strong negotiation and persuasion skills to obtain best contract terms, agreements and to resolve/help resolve extremely critical matters (e.g. contract disputes involving very significant financial impact to the business).

§  Interact and communicate with exceptional effectiveness with all levels of employees, suppliers, contractors, and management.

§  Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues

§  Helps drive change in basic business processes across the company

§  Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people

§  Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements

§  Demonstrate a good level of English proficiency (written / verbal)
