The VP, Diversity and Inclusion will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the enterprise strategic D&I plan as well as program development and deployment, including programs for recruiting and hiring diverse critical talent, retaining key talent, and strengthening leadership capabilities. Our head of D&I will work across our businesses to address diversity of gender, generation, geography and culture to ensure equality across Western Digital. This is a management role with a team of two who will also partner with affinity and employee resource groups (ERGs).  The position will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).




  • Conduct organizational assessment and workforce analysis to identify enablers of both inclusive and diverse workplace to create targeted programs

  • Partner with HR Centers of Expertise on philosophies, programs, and process

  • Partner with existing affinity and employee resource groups (ERGs) to maximize their contributions in alignment with D&I strategy

  • Work with employees and leadership sponsors to establish new affinity groups

  • In partnership with Global Talent Acquisition team, amp up external recruiting efforts targeting diverse talent and implementing talent attraction strategies for opportunities to develop our global diversity pipeline

  • In partnership with Global Talent Management and Organizational Development, implement corporate-wide Unconscious Bias Training, propose cross cultural workshops, and deploy targeted leadership development program

  • In partnership with People Analytics, develop D&I dashboards and analyze metrics for measuring progress for effectiveness of the diversity and inclusion strategy.

  • In partnership with Community Relations team, align STEM and community outreach initiatives with D&I

  • Work collaboratively with HR Communications and the Corporate Internal Communications team to enhance both internal and external branding for diversity and inclusion, including content for website and intranet.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with Master degree or relevant certification preferred

  • 12 years plus of experience in Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, or relevant experience with at least 8 years leading/managing teams.

  • Experience working and navigating globally -  experience working with Asia markets and cultures a plus

  • Demonstrated success in developing cutting edge global strategy and driving process improvements in a global workplace.

  • Proven track record of influencing, leading and facilitating enterprise-wide initiatives with multiple senior stakeholders (Exec Leadership Team and Business Leadership Sponsors).

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills across levels, with an ability to persuade and influence, and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment

  • Strong knowledge of EEOC and global regulatory requirements.
